the architecture unfolds like an ever-evolving landscape painting.

中国的养老社区往往存在孤立于城市、与社会脱节的问题，更类似于封闭的医疗机构，缺乏足够公共空间以及与外界的沟通互动。广西是全国最早进入老龄化社会的省区之一，截至2018年底，60周岁以上老年人口730多万，占广西常住人口的14%。泰康之家 · 桂园面向该年龄段老年人，为他们提供包括活力社交、生活照料、专业护理、康复医疗等生活支持，旨在建立一种去机构化的，社区导向的，生态可持续的温馨家园，缓解南宁社会老龄化压力。

The project site is L-shaped, with a natural wild park at the northeast corner of the site and a river running through it. We have departed from the traditional centralized arrangement of an elderly activity center and instead, linearly arranged spaces and functions around the natural park, transforming it into a landscape corridor that connects the entire community.

The community comprises a hospital, nursing buildings, and senior apartments arranged along the outer edge of the site, with the community center situated at the heart of the community.

To ensure that the service radius from the community center to other buildings does not exceed 120 meters, the design linearly unfolds the various functional spaces of the community center in a C-shape. This layout embraces the natural park, reduces building heights, and preserves the views of other buildings facing the natural park. The C-shaped layout of the public spaces within the community center also allows for more convenient connections to the residential units in each cluster.

由于项目所在地南宁为亚热带季风性气候，雨季时间长。作为服务社区最重要的公共建筑，活力中心用连续的屋檐将老年大学、图书馆、康体健身中心、多功能厅、文娱中心和美食中心室内功能空间线性组织在一起，为社区老人创造避雨、通风、防潮的室外活动、交流、休憩的空间。

Due to the subtropical monsoon climate, Nanning experiences a prolonged rainy. The continuous eaves create a sheltered space for the elderly to engage in outdoor activities, socialize, and rest without being affected by the rain. This building, resembling a landscape corridor, bridges the gap between the natural surroundings inside and outside the community. At the same time, it is adorned with carefully arranged plants and flowers, offering a changing scenery throughout the seasons. Elderly residents can leisurely stroll along the corridor, connecting with nature, or find solace under the expansive eaves, gazing at the mountains and savoring the rain.

The community center serves as the most important public building in the entire community. Its continuous eave linearly connects indoor functional spaces, such as the senior college, library, health and fitness center, multi-functional halls, entertainment center, and restaurant.

The seamless integration of indoor and outdoor walkways 

provides a thoughtful and convenient experience for the elderly, 

allowing them to fully appreciate the rich and high-quality community life

这个像景观长廊一样的建筑串联起整个社区内外的自然景观带，环绕活力中心错落种植地花木，景致随四季变换，老年人栖居其中，可沿连廊缓步与自然亲近，也可在大屋檐下望山赏雨。

This building, like a landscape corridor, connects the natural landscape belt inside and outside the entire community, surrounding the vitality center with scattered planting areas of flowers and trees. The scenery changes with the seasons, and elderly people live in it. They can walk slowly along the corridor to get close to nature, or watch the mountains and rain under the big eaves.

结构体系：主活力中心建筑具有空间跨度大、屋面造型形态有机等特征。屋面结构采用钢结构+轻屋面系统，屋顶钢结构所采用的单层网壳，解决了屋面曲率变化大，造型不规则、施工难度大等问题。建筑北侧朝向自然公园方向的玻璃幕墙钢结构系统可同时做为屋面钢结构结构支撑，保证建筑了内部大跨度无柱公共空间与室外自然公园之间的视觉通透性。

Structural system: The community center’s standout feature lies in its expansive spatial design and dynamically shaped roof structure. To achieve this, we employed a steel framework in conjunction with a lightweight roofing system. This design enabled us to overcome challenges associated with significant curvature variations, irregular forms, and construction complexity commonly encountered in architectural projects of this nature. Additionally, the steel framework system for the north-facing glass curtain wall, which overlooks the natural park, serves a dual purpose as both structural support for the roof and a means to ensure unobstructed visual connectivity between the spacious, column-free interior spaces and the surrounding outdoor natural park.

Fitness Center

屋面幕墙系统包含平锁扣屋面系统和檐口铝板幕墙，具有结构重量轻、易施工、环保等特性。屋面材料为合适度尺寸铝镁锰合金板，呼应当地传统民居瓦屋面的建筑形式。

The roof and curtain wall system encompass both a flat lock roof system and an eave aluminum panel curtain wall. This combination offers advantages such as lightweight structural properties, ease of construction, and environmental sustainability. The roofing material consist of appropriately sized aluminum-magnesium-manganese alloy panels, inspired by the architectural style of traditional local residential tiled roofs.

活力中心分为主楼与超级体验中心两部分，并用连廊衔接。

The community center includes two parts: 

the main building and the experience center, which are connected by a covered walkway, where soft, three-dimensional curved aluminum panels gracefully envelop the buildings, resembling ribbons.

Humanity and nature represent the ideals of contemporary urban residents. Architects employ a perceptual approach to explore the integration of architecture, the natural environment, and a humanistic perspective in the project’s architectural practice.

By utilizing modern design techniques to reinterpret the landscape of a picturesque village, we have crafted an ideal natural living environment for the elderly. The space beneath its curved roof captures the charm of a karst landform. As one strolls along the club’s lengthy corridor, they can immerse themselves in the scenery of the ecological park, much like appreciating a slowly unfolding landscape painting.
